studies of urban space, participation, self-construction workshop
Throughout the month of July we participated in a workshop focused on young people between 18 and 29 years, which proposed a reflection on the transformation of public space in the specific case of the Gardens of Sant Pau del Camp and Plaza Joan Corominas , in the Raval district. The aim has been to rethink public space to facilitate human and cultural relations with a community vision.
The action began on June 28, 2021 and ended on July 23, 2021, with a duration of 71 hours. The workshop provided participants with tools to reflect, explore and learn about public space, as well as to think about improvements collectively through the design of wooden objects. The participants have planned and developed the construction of the designed elements and have been tested through participatory actions in collaboration with other socio-educational entities in the Raval district.
Finally, two different objects have been built in each square that link the spaces of the CCCB museum and the Impulsem training center with their adjacent squares: a set of colored stools that allow the play and composition of different figures. and uses for Plaça Joan Corominas, and a mobile trolley with a bench and table function, which incorporates shadow elements for the Jardins de Sant Pau del Camp.
The training actions have been designed jointly by Voltes cooperative d’arquitectura, the Center for Contemporary Culture (CCCB), and the Center for Education, Training and Alternative Economic Initiatives.
This project has had the support of the “Barcelona 2020 Awards” Scholarships from Barcelona City Council.
