self-construction workshop, transfroamtion of educational spaces

During the last quarter of 2019, Voltes has developed the activity Connectem amb .... l'arquitectura, organized by the Department of Education and Activities of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona and the Nusos cooperative. It is a project of school proximity, in which the museum works together with some schools and each year chooses a different discipline, which is the means through which the students materialized a project.

During 2019, the theme was architecture and we have been Voltes architecture cooperative who have accompanied the children in the exercise of thinking about some problems of the courtyards and designing improvements to the space.

The objectives of the project have been to bring the natural space of the Botanic Garden closer to the surrounding schools and help children to think about how to introduce more nature into the playgrounds. Voltes have brought a new look to the outer space of the school, to understand the playground as an educational space, the neighborhood and the city!

The project was structured by means of three sessions: a first diagnosis, a second one for the realization of proposals and design and a final session for the construction of a model of the proposals made. The transversal objective of the sessions has also been to strengthen the awareness of group work in order to rethink the spaces. The project consisted of an initial session to the Botanical Garden with each group and a joint closing session with all the schools, where a collective construction of a geodesic dome was carried out and the exhibition was inaugurated with all the material produced.

The schools that have participated have been: Can Clos, Alfageme, La Muntanyeta, Mossén Jacint Verdaguer and CEIP Poble Sec.
